Top 10 tips to increase visitors to your website
The internet is a growing place.
Free form and unregulated; it is getting more and more difficult to make yourself heard in the defining din of service providers. Sometimes it can feel like you’re shouting out into the void of cyberspace with the same vocal capacity as a mouse in a steelwork factory.
Now, we understand what a problem this is, so we have prepared 10 tips to help increase traffic to your website.
Good people of the dot com generation, follow our advice and make yourself heard!
1. Get on as many search engines as possible!
This is an integral part of your cyberspace journey. Research the major search engines and apply for your site to be listed in as many engines as your weary mouse finger can click on. It is often free to do this so get going! You could also consider having your website listed in any one of the numerous online directories. This may cost a nominal fee but can be useful in increasing traffic. If you would rather see someone else do all the hard work for you check out some of the SEO packages and services that are available.
2. Get connected!
Many search engines will discover your pages by trawling through the web of hyperlinks dotted all over the internet. This is achieved by indexing engines called “Spider Bots”. More links to your site means larger surface exposure which means more spider bots. You will also be awarded a rating for the number of links in the engines index pointing to your site. Exchange links with affiliate sites, get on web rings and get your site linked to at every possible opportunity!
3. You Better Learn How To Use Meta!
Make sure that every page you make has meta keywords and descriptions. This is vital for search engines to return results and often this meta description is returned to the surfer, so keep it positive!
4. Remember: Keyword, Keyword, Keyword!
Alliteration is a great way of making yourself heard. The same principles apply to websites. Decide on key words appropriate for your theme and target audience and make sure you use them wherever possible. This is essential in increasing hits to your website. Through the proper use of keywords you will be able to sit back and watch your search engine rating grow and the website’s traffic increase. Keep it natural good people, no one wants to have to scroll down through a list of jargon keywords, writing skills are needed here!
5. No One Likes Stale Bread
Most search engines will display a last modified date and will rate websites according to this. Keep making changes to your website, even if they are only very small. This will keep your page fresh and on top of all the other lesser sites!
6. Paint Your Name High!
Advertising may cost you in the short term, but a correctly targeted marketing plan can help increase hits like nothing else on this earth. Get banners made and exchange banners with other websites. You can also consider paying search engines to feature your website. Remember that you can advertise offline as well; letter drops, newspaper adverts and (if you’re a little loopy) stickers on the side of your car are great ways of getting peoples attention. Keep it novel, I’ve even seen hay bays on the sides of motorways used to advertise websites. Get inspired and get entrepreneurial!
7. Draw a Map
More links means more spider indexing which means higher rating. Why not link from within your own site as much as possible? This will make it easier for spider bots to flick through your site and increase your search engine rating. A pure text index page is a great way to do this.
8. Get Your Site Reviewed
The only thing worse then being talked about badly is not being talked about at all! Get some publicity. Talk to the industry critics and get your website reviewed and evaluated. If the response is positive you will have just increased you chance of getting visitors and started to foster industry acceptance. If not you will get a bruised ego but some useful pointers from which you can improve.
9. Post on Forums
Get on forums that relate to your website and get involved. People who like what you have to say are likely to follow any link that you leave in your signature. This free form of advertising is useful in building word of mouth type advertising campaigns.
10. Use a newsletter
Don’t let people who have already found you forget that you exist. Push your way to the front of their minds by using a weekly or monthly news letter. This is a great way to harness your existing customer base and keep them coming back for more!
Well there you go!
Obviously this is only a rough guide, but we are confident that the proper implementation of these techniques will add wind to your sails and tie an air siren to your little mousey back.
It’s not going to be easy but when you’re a rich and famous Dot Com tycoon, remember where you got your first tips!
Good Luck People!
